There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting.
-- The Buddha
Our geckos are a pretty pathetic lot. Complacent and way over fed we have become used to them taking plummets off walls and ceiling then looking about, abashed at being such clutzes. One fell on Yunee's head the other night, dashed for safety only to fall into a dish she was washing, made another dash, ending up in the water in the sink. She fished it out and it made yet another leap for freedom, right into the window. Yunee told it off, scolding and pointing a wooden spoon at it to make her point, in an interesting assortment of what I guess was Thai epithets. It lay there and took the scolding, a bit too dazed to try more leaps. Later Yunee leaped up and ran to the kitchen to shoo off a housemonster before it made a quick meal of the wretch.
Our giant gecko has been making a pain in the arse of himself of late. The night before last he made a noise exactly like someone desperately knocking on our door causing me to get up and dressed and dash out.
This morning I saw him for the first time. As I suspected: defective. Gigantic, about the general size and weight of a foot long monitor lizard, but something went wrong with his tail. Only about 2 inches long and hooked like a clothes hanger. He has been porking out on the termites now swarming.
